Lake Sammamish Kokanee Salmon recovery

Our Lake Sammamish Kokanee are a truly unique native species. This fish is a smaller, freshwater-only variant of the more commonly seen sockeye salmon. They complete their entire life cycle in freshwater, unlike their larger relatives, hatching in local tributaries and growing into sizable adults by eating lake plankton and other small prey items. However, these beautiful fish face a number of threats, and it is vital to their conservation to understand how they are faring at different stages of life.
